Earlier this week, President Trump nominated White House Deputy Chief of Staff Kirstjen Nielsen to be the new Secretary of Homeland Security. The position was became vacant when former Secretary John Kelly left to be President Trump’s White House Chief of Staff in July.
In its announcement, the White House said Nielsen “has extensive professional experience in the areas of homeland security policy and strategy, cybersecurity, critical infrastructure, and emergency management.”
Ms. Nielsen’s nomination follows last week’s Senate confirmation of Lee Francis Cissna to serve as the Director of USCIS.
