Yesterday, IIUSA hosted a free pre-conference webinar, “Navigating the Hill: How to Ensure Your Grassroots Advocacy is Effective.” The webinar was intended to give attendees the tools and confidence to head up to Capitol Hill and be an advocate for IIUSA and the EB-5 industry. With the 12th Annual EB-5 Advocacy Conference less than 2 weeks away, IIUSA was eager to provide this resource to encourage its members to take the future of EB-5 into their own hands and be engaged advocates on Capitol Hill while in town.
Webinar panelists included Trish Jones Mondero and George McElwee, two government and public affairs professionals with years of experience in both the public and private sectors.
The webinar gave a brief civics review then went on to give more details about how Congressional offices operate, why grassroots advocacy is important and effective, and how to request meetings with your elected officials. A more specific review on EB-5 legislative affairs was provided as well as a segment on what to expect when you attend a Capitol Hill meeting.
Overall, the webinar was comprehensive in preparing either a novice or seasoned advocate to head up to Capitol Hill after the IIUSA EB-5 Advocacy Conference and hold a successful and meaningful meeting.
Talking points and leave behinds for Hill meetings will be available on the conference mobile app for anyone planning to head to Capitol Hill next month. Additionally, the webinar will be available on IIUSA’s education platform soon for those who were unable to attend the webinar, but are interested in learning how to be a grassroots advocate for EB-5.
