IIUSA Data Report: Form I-829 Statistics for Q4 Fiscal Year 2023 and Full-Year Review

Based on the most recent USCIS data release (see here), IIUSA has published a new data report (members-only) detailing the latest Form I-829 statistics for the fourth quarter (Q4) of fiscal year (FY) 2023 and full-year review. This comprehensive report analyzes the trends of I-829 case filings, adjudications, average approval rates, and the current I-829 case backlog at USCIS.

KEY DATA HIGHLIGHTS

 

Form I-829 Case Filings:

  • In FY2023, USCIS received 1,170 I-829 petitions, marking a 9% decline year over year.

Form I-829 Case Adjudications:

  • USCIS processed a total of 2,040 I-829 cases in FY2023. The agency’s productivity in adjudicating I-829 petitions rebounded from the 10-year low in FY2022 but remained below the average level.

Form I-829 Case Approval Rate:

  • With the approval rate of I-829 cases dropping to 85% in the fourth quarter, the overall approval rate in FY2023 is 87%.

Form I-829 Case Backlog: 

  • As of September 30, 2023 (the end of FY2023), a total of 9,989 I-829 cases were still pending at USCIS.
