Join IIUSA’s Fundraiser to Support Earthquake Relief, rEBUILDING and Recovery for Türkiye

03.09.23 | Events

All of us were devastated by the aftermath of the two back-to-back earthquakes that struck Southeastern Türkiye with magnitudes of 7.8 and 7.5 on February 6th, 2023. The earthquakes were felt by at least eight surrounding cities and caused over 48,000 deaths in the region. According to Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, 900,000 people in Türkiye are currently living in tents and containers following the disaster and the subsequent tremors.

Our thoughts are with the injured and the families of the victims. We extend our deepest condolences to all families who lost their loved ones and homes. IIUSA has launched a fundraiser to support earthquake relief, rebuilding and recovery for Türkiye via the Turkish Philanthropy Funds (TPF).

TPF’s Turkiye Earthquake Relief Fund

The TPF has established the Turkiye Earthquake Relief Fund for immediate relief to earthquake survivors through TPF’s partners on the ground. In addition, the Fund will provide longer-term assistance to help residents recover and rebuild. Your contributions will go to TPF-vetted NGOs that are directly involved in all the affected cities to help victims recover from the devastating effects of the earthquake and rebuilding efforts.

Current Challenges

People in Türkiye battle earthquakes on an ongoing basis. February 6th was a devastating day for many cities. As of February 27th, more than 40,000 deaths have been confirmed, and the toll is expected to increase. Immediate relief efforts provided by this fund aim to ensure that survivors and first responders receive critical resources, including food, housing, medical aid, water, and psychosocial care. It will also provide long-term assistance to help residents recover and rebuild.

TPF’s Solution

100% of your donations to this fund will support TPF’s Türkiye Earthquake Relief Fund and recovery/rebuilding efforts. TPF monitors the impact on affected communities through their partners on the ground. Grants are made through an open call. Initially, the fund helps first responders meet survivors’ immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter. As needs evolve, the fund will support longer-term recovery and rebuilding efforts run by local, vetted partner organizations in the impacted area(s).

How Your Donation Will Be Used

When you donate to TPF’s Türkiye Earthquake Relief Fund, 100% of your donation will be used to:

  • Provide food and emergency medical supplies to people and animals
  • Support temporary relief and emergency supplies for displaced families
  • Provide support to front-line workers, like volunteers of our partner organizations
  • Meet other needs that emerge

You can follow TPF on social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram) and stay up-to-date on how your donations are being used to help earthquake relief efforts.

TPF’s Track Record in Disaster Relief

TPF has been responding to disasters and supporting emergency aid and long-term relief programs since 2011. The organization has facilitated more than $3 million in disaster donations to help disaster relief around the globe.
